PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

October 2001 - Present
Leading Institutional Brokerage - New York, NY
Senior Programmer/Analyst

In a very advanced Perl/Sybase/Solaris development shop, I've pioneered an internal trading application and a competitive clearing tool.

  • Custom written Sybase stored procedures are called from Apache's mod_perl environment for parsing and subsequent display of data to the end user's web browser.
  • A complete order management system with position allocation and real-time updating blotter for traders and high net worth individuals.
  • Implemented the firm's first source control using CVS. CVS is used for branching and merging of development trees and deployment to the QA environment then to Production.
  • Threaded Perl daemons were written for polling of IBM MQSeries for real-time order reporting and bulk order submission.

May 2000 - September 2001
World Less Traveled, LLC. - New York, NY
Director of Technology

This trailblazing company created a platform for consolidating data from multiple content providers and distributing that information to any digital device.   Eighteen travel agencies contracted to supply their copyrighted material during the proof-of-concept phase.  I hired and trained an excellent team to roll out this product through its pioneering first version from conception to completion.  The entire infrastructure (including Solaris, OpenBSD, Linux, Windows 2000, MacOS, and custom firewalls and routers) was architected, maintained, and enhanced by myself or under my direction.

  • Involved in all aspects of company from major financial decisions, communicating to potential investors, to hiring policies and retirement plans.
  • Wrote first generation of web application using Apache and mod_perl deriving all content from a relational database.  The web application intelligently determined the nature of the remote querying device and responded with the proper code (HTML, WML, XML) and embedded data.
  • Wrote initial Palm application in C using Metrowerks CodeWarrior for PalmOS and the Palm GNU prc-tools.  The design was for a detached Palm and included the ability to synchronize remotely and receive up-to-the-minute live information.
  • Created WAP port of application in WML.
  • Created a thin client textual version of the web site to support web-clipping for PalmOS.
  • Researched and built standardized machines from simple day-to-day employee computers to scalable enterprise servers, routers, and firewalls to service both the company and clients.
  • Educated team members on enterprise architecture, object-oriented design, coherent coding, and teamwork.
  • Created a complex session management scheme to track not only customers who subscribed to zeo information but also to track anonymous users for clickstream data.
  • Architected SQL database schema using an Oracle master database and importing data from diverse data formats included, HTML, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL, XML, text, RTF, and CSV.  Data was received from 16 content partners using diverse technologies to store their data.  Custom data importation modules were written for maximum reusability of the code to consolidate the data to the standardized proprietary format.
  • Automated real-time remote bi-directional SQL database synchronization from QA to production servers.  Information was tunneled over SSH using ACLs for maximum security.
  • Designed detailed migration plan to an enterprise platform in UML to migrate to a J2EE environment with Oracle interMedia solution to wrap data in XML.

June 1996 - May 2000

  • Developed a hardware/software cookie-based tracking system based on proprietary load balancing software written in C for users of the firm's public web site.  The tracking system was foundational for use as a profiling system for mass personalization.
  • Communicated initiatives and status of projects in biweekly meeting to firm executives.
  • Architected a three-tier application process in Java, using JSP, servlets, and an Oracle 8i database.
